Stand Together – update, 2 March 2020
We wanted to update supporters and the wider community about progress in the Stand Together Campaign which is working to support the club’s efforts to re-build the clubhouse after last Summer’s fire.
While news about the insurance claim is still awaited, there is plenty to report from the campaign.
When we set out, the aim was to raise £50k towards the clubhouse re-build. This has proved immensely challenging but the resolve remains and work goes on. After a raft of events and fund-raising activities through the Autumn, we had raised over £10k. The sale of bricks continues with 177 bricks sold as of last week. We have received sample bricks engraved with the donor’s name and message – they look great. The sale of individual bricks at £25 each remains open for a little longer – see the link on the club website. We are now moving on to invite local businesses to “Buy a Brick” and have their name and message forever embedded in the new clubhouse. We hope that lots of shops and businesses will want to support this.
We have also spent time investigating and following up possible sources of grant funding. This has been both hard toil involving pursuing some awards that end in a blank but we are hopeful that at least one significant award will be achieved even if we remain some way off realising this. This work continues behind the scenes.
After successful social events through the Autumn we are now ready to announce a further series of events and fun activities that we hope supporters and people around the town will want to support.
First up is an evening with former Premier League referee and current SKY pundit, Dermot Gallagher. This takes place at 7pm on Friday 27 March in The Cabin at the football club and will certainly be of interest to everyone with any interest in top class sport. Dermot has plenty of lively anecdotes and his customary strong opinions to share. Tickets are priced £10 and are available via the club website or in person at forthcoming home games – ask in The Cabin. We have a licensed bar and it will be an entertaining evening. On the evening of Saturday 4 April we have a Casino Night in The Cabin. Look out for details of tickets for this special event.
Following November’s successful Quiz Night at The Chequered Flag, we are going to do it again. Tuesday 7 April will see Andrew Bannard again as quizmaster with the full services of The Flag and their great staff available to us to make this another successful evening.
On Saturday 11 April we will be hosting our first ever Football Programme and Sporting Memorabilia fayre. This will be at the club from 10am. We are expecting to attract a range of stalls with both indoor and outdoor pitches available, a hearty offer of refreshments throughout the day and, we hope, a great buzz as professional collectors and those of us who are just interested in all things sporting get together on a Saturday at St James Park when neither the first team or Brackley Town Saints have a game. Again, look out for further information shortly.
So the work goes on. Thank you to everyone who has supported the campaign in some way to this point. Please help get everyone behind these efforts to raise funds but also to get people together to enjoy social events that help keep us together as a club through these challenging times without a clubhouse.
