Solihull Moors MR v Brackley Town u16's

Brackley Town u16's kept a clean sheet & came away with their 1st away point of the season against a very physical & direct Solihull Moors team. Brackley had to work & battle hard dealing with a team who would only play route one football. They were dominant in the air & they were looking to flick their nippy forward in at every opportunity.

Brackley did well defensively & were causing Solihull Moors problems in wide areas early on. We had tasked the players to get the ball wide, get crosses in & be positive in front of goal. On the whole Brackley were the better team in the 1st half & the players responded well to what we had asked them to do. Brackley had some really good spells of passing football, they were at least trying to knock the ball around & looking for each other which was pleasing to see. The boys were also trying to be positive in front of goal & had a few opportunities but nothing really clear cut. At HT we asked the players to use the width more, move the ball quicker & use the space better in midfield. We felt we could stretch them & this could be our best chance to take away all 3 points. We were pleased with the defensive shape & wanted that to continue but we must make sure that we deal with the long ball & dont loose concentration. We reiterated that we must test the keeper & we needed to get more players forward. For the first 10-15 mins Brackley were being forced deeper & deeper into their own half as Solihull continued to launch everything long. Brackley struggled to get the ball wide as they had done in the first half & we were causing our own problems trying to play in tight spaces when other options were available. Solihull we roughing us up in the middle of the park & although the ref did award free kick after free kick, time & time again their players were getting away from being cautioned. Neither keeper was really troubled in the second half with Solihull Moors driling one wide from outside the box & Keelan McConnan blazing over from inside the box after skipping past his man. Brackley did have a really good spell midway through the 2nd half with Manny, Issac & Kai linking well in midfield but we didn't stretch the opposition as we should of done & that cost usin the end. Solihull Moors were still causing us concerns when they went forward but on the whole the defence held firm & the game finished all square. FT 0-0
